Nigeria/Namibia relations date back to the early days of the struggle for liberation spearheaded by South West Africa Peoples’ Organization (SWAPO), now the ruling party. Nigeria maintained a constructive role on the United Nations’ floor as Chair of the Anti-Apartheid Committee on Namibia. In recognition of Nigeria’s active engagement to liberate the entire Southern Africa from apartheid rule, Nigeria was listed among the frontline states. Nigeria maintained an observer mission in Namibia before its independence. The first Nigeria High Commissioner to the independent Republic of Nigeria is H.E. Mr. E.A Aina. He presented his Letters of Credence to the former President of Namibia, Dr. Sam Nujoma on 9th May 1990.
