Nigeria established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Namibia on 22nd March 1990. Since then, relations between the two countries have been warm and cordial. As a sign of gratitude to Nigeria, in October 2008, the Namibia Government named the street where the Nigeria High Commission is located as General Murtala Muhammed Avenue, Windhoek. The former President of Nigeria, Retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida attended Namibia’s Independence Ceremony in 1990. In 2002, former President Olusegun Obasanjo was in Namibia for a two-day State visit. Former President Goodluck Jonathan also paid a two-day State visit to Namibia in 2014 to strengthen relations and deepen already existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
